The WA/NID/AK Workers Meeting
June 4th, 2024
Overseer: Darryl Doland
INTRODUCTION
As stated elsewhere, the purpose of this website is the examination of the historical and religious aspects unique to the 2×2 Fellowship. I had no intention to write about the CSA/SA scandal within the fellowship, mainly because it would be duplicative and derivative since other websites such as Advocates For Truth and Bridging The Gap are addressing it much better and in more depth than I ever could. However, the when the audio file from the June 2024 Workers Meeting was recently posted to one of the ex-2×2 Facebook pages, I decided to listen to it. After listening to it, I decided to engage with the things that were said.
From a personal standpoint, I have no strong feelings about the cases of CSA/SA within the 2×2 Fellowship. By that I mean that as a person who grew up in the fellowship for the first 18 years of my life, I was never subjected to the horror that CSA/SA victims have endured. I unreservedly abhor the physical, sexual or psychological abuse of any person, regardless of age. There is something more despicable, though, about any abuse of a defenseless child. My own church has had its own shameful history of abuse for which I will never make excuses. The bottom line is that human beings (almost always men) are fragile and broken creatures regardless of whether they are in a religious group or not, and abuse has a long, shameful heritage throughout history.
It has been many years since I paid any attention to the 2×2 universe. I was vaguely aware that there had been an ongoing scandal but I had not been following it. Then, in April 2026, I learned that my uncle who was a Worker (now deceased), was named as an abuser. I have no knowledge of his activities and have absolutely no motivation to try to defend his alleged actions. I am presenting the facts as best I can understand them, and I welcome any correction with regard to dates, details, etc. I have done my best to provide time stamps on the audio for people to go listen for themselves. I will simply quote Advocates for Truth as a preface to the audio: ;
The viewing/listening of this can be confronting for anyone, but especially for victims. Suggestions for safe viewing/listening include: choosing to listen/watch it alongside people you feel safe with and trust, rather than listening/watching it alone. You can choose to listen/watch it in small portions rather than all at once. Know that there is no requirement to listen/watch it as soon as it comes out, or even at all - do what is best for your mental well-being. You could ask someone you trust to watch it and share the information. And lastly, if you are distressed by listening/watching it, remember that you are not alone and there are others who will be experiencing the same response as you. There is no shame in that response. Always if you need to, reach out for support. - Advocates for Truth website, accessed 6/17/26
COMMENTARY
The Workers meeting audio file is dated 6/4/24 and can be accessed on Youtube here. The meeting was called in response to the GRACE investigation of allegations of abuse in North Seattle, the results of which were released a month earlier according to the WANIDAK Blog. The meeting was led by Overseer Darryl Doland.
“If its scriptural at least it won’t divide spiritual people” 17:17 on the video; because “Its the scriptures that unite us” urging them to keep scripture “in context as much as possible” - MFer, you’d better keep it in context because of what happened to these people! “and kind of see what we can come up with”. He acknowledges that it probably won’t make everyone happy but “I don’t think it will divide spiritual people”
Doland proposes to “make a document of how scripturally we should deal with the issue that we’re dealing with”, like a Bible verse with a short summary and they can “check each other” regarding proper interpretation of the proposed scripture verse PROOF TEXTING!
we can have a policy like that (the one he is proposing), “or we don’t have a policy”; he doesn’t want to take the proposed guidelines from the experts and “put holes in it” [with 2×2 modifications] so he wants to “build it from scratch”.
He gives the reason he doesn’t think their guidelines will work is because they’re developed for corporations, not the 2×2s who are “a family”. but corporations and families “are not compatible”. Jerry McCormack sp? proposed rewording it in a “family vernacular”
Doland says he cannot sleep at night if he is “knowingly putting children at risk” with a policy; they will emphasize “report, report, report” - the the authorities; also emphasize “education” (to have people know they need to report) - he is “guessing” that by emphasizing educating and reporting that this should take care of most of the cases, leaving only “a small percentage” —> then how can he sleep if he knows such a policy will still put a small percentage of children at risk? - this resulting policy would leave a lot of discretion to the elders
A reproduction of Overseer Darryl Doland’s letter dated April 2023 is available at Telling the Truth, where he said announced the plan to create a website, and said “we are going to ask everyone on our staff and the elders to take training courses regarding CSA (Child Sexual Abuse). We will not become investigators, counselors, etc., but we will educate ourselves, which is crucial for raising our awareness and safety levels. One of the courses we will take is called Ministry Safe”. —> is the plan for workers to take both general and clergy segments, and what is the verification for this process. How does taking this course stop predators?
By June 19th Overseer Darryl Doland issued a letter confirming that the allegations made in this particular case were confirmed and announcing guidelines going forward for any future cases of CSA/SA. The letter is available at WINGS for Truth, a pdf of the guidelines is also available at WINGS for Truth. —> the guidelines don’t seem much different from what he said in his April 2023 letter
